Para-surgical Treatment

Para-surgical treatments

Ayurveda offers several specialized para-surgical procedures, combining traditional practices with minimal invasiveness to treat specific conditions effectively.

Kshar Sutra (Medicated Thread Therapy)

Kshar Sutra is a unique Ayurvedic technique primarily used to treat anorectal conditions like fistulas, hemorrhoids, and pilonidal sinus. In this procedure:

A medicated thread, treated with herbal alkaline solutions, is prepared.

  • This thread is carefully inserted into the fistula or hemorrhoid, gradually cutting through and healing the tissue while also reducing infection risk.
  • The therapy is minimally invasive, effective, and has a lower recurrence rate than conventional surgical procedures.

Agnikarma (Thermal Cauterization)

Agnikarma is used to manage chronic pain, joint disorders, and muscle stiffness. This involves:

  • Applying controlled heat to specific points using “Panch dhatu shalaka” (Heated metal instruments).
  • The heat therapy helps alleviate pain, improve blood circulation, and promote healing in affected areas.

Raktamokshana (Bloodletting Therapy)

Raktamokshana is an Ayurvedic blood purification method used to treat skin disorders, hypertension, and inflammation. Techniques include:

  • Using leeches for gentle blood removal or creating small incisions to draw out stagnant blood.
  • This method detoxifies the body, reduces local congestion, and alleviates symptoms.

Jaluka Therapy (Leech Therapy)

Leech therapy, or Jaluka, is beneficial for conditions like varicose veins, skin diseases, and inflammatory disorders. In this:

  • Medicinal leeches are applied to the affected area, where they release anticoagulants and suck impure blood.
  • The therapy reduces inflammation, promotes circulation, and accelerates healing.

Chedana and Bhedana (Excision and Incision Techniques)

These are minor surgical techniques used for draining abscesses, treating cysts, and excising small growths. They involve:

  • Carefully controlled incisions and drainage to remove excess fluids or infected material.
  • This helps in faster recovery, reduces pain, and prevents recurrence.

These Ayurvedic para-surgical procedures emphasize minimal invasiveness, encouraging natural healing while addressing the root causes of ailments.
